Elizabeth Kneebone and Emily Garr analyze recent American poverty trends, finding that suburbs are now home to the largest and fastest growing poor population in the country. The suburban poor population grew by 25 percent between 2000 and 2008–almost five times faster than cities and 10 points above the national growth rate.
